Consulting Your Spirit Guides (Secret No. 7)

This week as part of our highly creative bloggers Next Chapter Book Club we are taking a look at: seeking out role models and advisers, reading about inspiring lives, and guiding others. (Side Note: This post is from a few years ago)

CHALLENGE #1 Searching for a guide (in the flesh):

My story - Short Version:

Never had one.
Always wanted one.
Dreamed I was one.
Became one.

*Update - I now have a spiritual mentor/guide in the flesh and her name is Francesca De Grandis.

Long Version - How to Find Your Spirit Guides:

I never actually found the "perfect guide" in the flesh, but I did find several in the spirit world. My recommendation, for those of you searching for your spirit guides, is to start out by working with a deck of tarot or oracle cards. My deck of choice was the Greenwood Deck, a Celtic Pagan deck created by Mark Ryan and illustrated by Chesca Potter. The two cards featured in this blog post were the ones that kept cropping up for me over and over again. But it was the Ancestor card that proved to be my greatest guide, acting as a gateway into the spirit world. By following (metaphorically/symbolically) the trunk and roots of the trees pictured in the card, down into the ground and beyond, I was able to access my main spirit guide, Annie.

Update: Nowadays I would definitely work with my own hand painted oracle decks!

How To Connect with Guides to Help Others:

When I give readings, I connect with the greatest guides there are, The Divines. I didn't start out by giving readings, I worked up to it over many, many years of practice. I suggest you find what methods work best for you, whatever allows you to quiet your mind (monkey-mind), open your heart, and become humble in the presence of Divine Beauty, with the realization that you are merely a channel and a messenger. Your job as a guide, is to remain open and connected, so that you can deliver healing and insightful messages in a non-judgemental, comprehensible and clear manner.

It's Scorpio Season! A New Moon Reading

Releasing ANGER in a Healthy Way

As I let my brightness shine I let my anger out too, for to repress emotions is a ticket to ill health. Healthy expression of anger can look like this: letting the fire burn within then releasing it in a mad whirl of passion and color on paper: gouging, scraping, scratching the canvas with knives and sticks - mark making to release. In the background I’ve cranked up LOUD techno music as I dance and whirl and spin the anger out, screaming “FUCK YOUUUUU” til I’m exhausted. Whew, I’ve let it out. it can’t hurt me anymore. I banish you, ANGER. I am done. You are dismissed. Below is a painting from that time.

Card 1: Scorpio Goddess Brigid (Zodiac Goddess Power Card)

Scorpio Goddess ~ Brigid

Brigid’s reign as sacred muse
spans centuries timeless truth

Brigid is one of the few early goddesses to survive intact through the Christian era. Brigid means ‘bright one’ as symbolized by fire. She is worshiped as a Triple Goddess by the Celtic Irish, called Brigantia in England, Bride in Scotland and Brigandu in Celtic France. In her ancient form as carrier of the cauldron she was ruler of smithcraft, poetry, inspiration, healing and medicine. The Christian Saint Bridget is often invoked as both muse and healer in continuation of her ancient rites and her rituals were preserved for more than 1000 years after she ceased to be called a goddess. Today little is left of the ancient Celtic legends describing her.

Card 2: Kit Fox (Elfin Ally Oracle)

Reversed: You are lost within yourself.

Affirmation: I am alert and can hear your heart’s beauty in every beat.

Element: Air

Medicine: You hear into the heart of silence to ascertain the truth.

Lore: In the desert her soul lit up with Kit Fox as her ally. She could trixie her way up any path where the views outshone her wildest imaginings and the Divines spoke to her loud and clear.

She loved her wee ally, Kit Fox, with all her heart, for he was her guardian, all ears alert for night sounds. In the day she was fierce and on fire from Sun, but by night she lay low, to dream and dance.

Card 3: This Beauty is Killing Me (Lefty Oracle)

When this card appears in a reading it’s time to seriously look at how you might be damaging yourself, your health, your life. Wearing high heels, for example is extremely harmful to your feet and back and will cause pain for you at some point in your life. Are you hurting others or being hurt? Are you vulnerable? Do you need protection and education around protecting yourself, your loved ones, your home, or the natural world around you? This card is simply pointing out the price you are paying for so called ‘beauty’. Is it worth it?

In my own life here in Southern California I look around at all the plastic surgeries and there are A LOT. But what can I do? I can accept me and put myself proudly out there to share my idea of what beauty means at middle age. It’s silver hair, extra weight and wrinkles that add to my beauty, not take away from it. I have survived AND thrived and beauty IS middle aged and wrinkled. So deal with it.

Moon in Aquarius: Experiment, Be Silly, Be You!

Today (Oct. 17) the Moon enters Aquarius until Oct. 19.

Whooper Swan is your Elfin Ally in tune with Great Spirit and Mama Moon. Allow your wild self to feel the eclectic, freedom loving vibes right now, perfect for community building and networking, chumming around and speaking up for yourself, but not necessarily getting down and dirty with that intimate loved one.

With the Moon squaring Uranus you may find yourself being extra impulsive and unconventional which goes against your desire to be liked (Moon squaring Venus). So why not mix all of this up into a big ball of being yourself and being okay with whatever that looks like; wacky squirrel slippers, krinkly grey hairs, owl hat and all. Because the Moon is in apogee (farthest away from the Earth) you may not feel these transits immediately.

Meditate for a moment upon these 3 words. Then free associate what they mean for you specifically. If you have a Moon Journal then write it down in there.

Now, resonate with what that means for you. Just sit quietly with it, no stress, no strain. Then give yourself that kindness, gentleness and heart right now.

Sink, dive, BE in that feeling and knowing-ness for a moment or more.

In your Moon Journal draw a symbol and a word to acknowledge that feeling so you won't ever forget it. Then place that symbol and word (metaphorically) in your third eye and in your heart knowing and trusting that you ARE loved. Always.

Full Moon Lefty Oracle Card of the Month: Kattern is grace under pressure

Mantra: I am mindful.

Affirmation: I am in perfect alignment with universal flow.

My body and mind are present in the now. 
And my heart, 

my heart aches. 

I embrace this ache as solace

slowly, so slowly, returns. 
With grace I accept.

If this card appears in a reading it’s pretty much guaranteed that you’ve got a whole lot goin’ on right now. In fact, in this oracle card Kattern appears to be holding up the sky all on her own, but the key word is ‘grace’. Although your world may be caving in on you right now, you have the fortitude and grace to carry on in style. Your feathers may feel ruffled and your world a shambles, but you do what you need to do without a big fuss or hissy fit. Things are NOT easy right now, but that too will change. So hang tight and wait for reinforcements; both divine and mundane.

In my own life this card symbolized my turning forty which felt like a rollercoaster ride of emotion that I was unprepared for and shake me up it did. I did my best to transform myself and my world by painting a series of divine feminine paintings on huge four foot by four foot canvases to let it all out, the pain, the sorrow, the joy, and it worked! I got those emotions safely out of me without too much damage control required. What a ride! But I kept my head and channeled the energy with grace and style; it was as messy as all get out, but a work of beauty in the end.
