The Night Before Solstice (Crone Denial NO More!)

I got sick for a day, probably because I burnt out on marketing, so I'm throwing it all out the window for Solstice...letting go...ahhhh. As I sit in my hot tub and feel the weight lifting I relax fully and completely into Goddess; into me.  Funny thing is, when I do this two great ideas come to me.

1. I need to focus on ME and that's okay; in my art and my writing.
2. There isn't much out there for the CRONE online. It's Millennial dominated (and Gen X) and I am the bridge.

I was born in 1965 so I am the very first of my generation (Gen X) to turn fifty. I understand the computer and am comfortable there and I can share all I do with other CRONES.

Strangely enough,  I was at a store yesterday (bargain shopping, of course) with my buddy; a fellow artist and crone, and the checkout lady asked if I wanted the Senior Discount. "What?!" I said..."NO! I'm not a senior yet". My friend, Terri Stiles Alkayali who is, inquired what qualified one as a senior and then gladly took the 20% discount. Later, she laughed, saying I was in CRONE DENIAL. I love that term. Did she make it up? Anyway, here's to the CRONE and yes, I celebrate CRONE-DOM with my beautiful grey hair. I'm fifty and proud of it. ***Blessed Be***

Into the Dark: Winter Solstice & New Moon in Capricorn

Dear Creative Soul, When I sat down in my shamanic New Moon Circle to honour and celebrate the upcoming Winter Solstice and New Moon in Capricorn this is what I channeled:

Oh Winter, Cailleach, Ancient Crone, Dark Night, I listen to your Silence and I hear the cauldron bubble and the owl hoot. It's time now to go within, to the dark, dark place where death and ice dance our name. Beneath the earth we enter Her barrow, Her cave at sunrise, Solstice morn. First light we see touches our third eye through this opening: the Light...the Light...she does return and within her, Hope and Dreams and Seeds are planted. It is the New Moon in Capricorn so let us plant these seeds, these dreams and tend Her garden for we are called...YOU are called...the wheel turns and we reply:

I AM Goddess I AM God I AM the Light I AM the Dark I AM holding Circle Blessed Be

My Winter Solstice Vision As for me: I feel at peace; calm, quiet, centered.  The darkness is velvety. I am surrounded by my guides, totems and star beings. I lie down and they bless me as my third eye tingles. The Hag, the Cailleach and I peer into her cauldron and I get in ~ to die and be reborn. I wait for the perfect moment; the moment of Solstice, to be born as light returns. I scream then I sleep; a new day has come.

Intention Setting for the New Moon Let go into darkness and as you are re-born and the Sun returns, it's time now to set your intentions for the moonth ahead. Don't forget to journal too!

Don't Give Up Pandora

Is it just me or is this time of year slightly depressing?  To combat the general malaise... ahem (big words for big feelings) I paint, and I paint strong women plus I meditate and call upon Her. I participated in a Spiral Dance led by Starhawk for Winter Solstice last Saturday in LA after attending the Renegade Craft Fair; what a dichotomy!  Perhaps I'm being harsh but the fair felt like Gen Y's in corporate art mode (beautiful and all, but very very digital and the art all looked the same) and then in the Reclaiming Tradition the Solstice event was of course pagan and kinda like attending church for smart hippies; lots of dancing, calling in of the elements and drumming by folks with very interesting names.  I prefer the latter; dancing freely is fun! Plus Starhawk with her permaculture activist background orates spectacularly; all of us were mesmerized as we swayed in tune with her words and her drum.

Land of the Summer Stars

I painted this 'vampire goddess' as I call her when I was feeling a bit low and overlooked, but heck, it's Winter; the season of Death and that's okay and even expected. I also turned to Robert Graves' book The White Goddess for the words within this painting and to Starhawk's book Dreaming the Dark. I'll be attending Starhawk's Winter Solstice Ritual in Los Angeles on Saturday and I'm sooo looking forward to it! I do love Winter (especially winter in Southern California!) which isn't really winter (I'm from Ontario, Canada; real winter!) but it does get cold, the trees do change color (a few of them) and I can sense the stillness and the darkness within plus the days are much shorter and I've started putting up my holiday decorations. Anyway, long story short; this 'vampire goddess' painting should help you 'get in the mood' for Winter and the Solstice where we once again cheer on the light during the longest night of the year.
