February 2 is Brigid's Day (Imbolc). Brigid is an Irish Fire Goddess of healing, smithcraft and poetree and we as pagans and witches honour Her today by lighting a candle to celebrate this half way point between Winter & Spring as the Sun grows stronger every day and the days grow longer.

I’d like to share a review of my Zodiac Goddess Playbook by Creative Director and Coach for women, Jane Dutra-Salemi. Enjoy!

Archetypes are powerful. These ancient symbols are supportive and healing. They help us to create change in our lives. They allow us to embody qualities we need to support us through transitional times. They make it possible for us to see the bigger picture in life situations and provide meaning and understanding for our emotions so that we can begin to know ourselves in deeper and more meaningful ways.

Archetypes are what first drew me to this book. The Zodiac Goddess Playbook by Kathy Crabbe is a fun little book that uses the archetypes of the goddesses to help us understand the 12 signs of the zodiac.

Kathy provides correspondences, affirmations, and meditations for each of the 12 featured goddesses. I appreciated all the information, but I also liked the fact that if any of the goddesses presented did not resonate with me, I had a lovely starting point for my own goddess study to use for that particular zodiac sign.

Visually, this book is very colorful. Each chapter represents one goddess/zodiac sign with accompanying artwork. If you are an artist, this book will intrigue you, as there is an article highlighting each of the contributing artists. It was interesting to read their shared stories.

If you are like me and have had trouble in the past following the moon cycles through the zodiac signs and remembering what each sign means, this is a fun way to do it. By having a goddess symbolize each zodiac sign, I am easily able to feel into that sign’s aspects and qualities. Taking an unfamiliar topic (the zodiac) and pairing with a familiar one (goddesses) was just what I needed to close the gap for me.

I also liked the “playbook” aspect of this book. Since it is an e-book I felt totally comfortable printing it out and making notes and comments on the pages, making it totally mine. I also feel that each person using the book will have a different experience with it. This book is great for personal discovery and could also be a fun tool to use within a group.

The Ogham Tree Alphabet was devised by the Druids ~ the wise elders of Old Celtic Britain. The Celts saw the spirit in all living things and lived their life deeply in touch with the seasonal cycles of nature.

The symbolic attributes of the trees have significance. For example Birch represents a new start and is the tree of first month of the Celtic Year.

Birthing of the Deck

Creating the art and writing in this deck was my first act of art-magick back when I was in my late twenties, newly married, and living in lovely Laguna Beach, California after graduating from design school and moving to the US from Montréal, Québec. I was in need of Goddess Energy in my life and Astrology was my passion, but it was so Male! So I spent a month channeling Goddess Energy in tune with Mama Moon. I painted and wrote and danced the entirety of this deck into being which I then spent over 25 years to bring to fruition and into your hands as a Zodiac Goddess Power deck and guidebook.

Taurus-Goddess by Kathy Crabbe

I Paint Taurus

While channeling Taurus energy I felt ecstatically happy just being outside amongst the green plants and flowers, feeling the sun on my bare arms and the solid ground beneath my feet. I felt myself enveloped in a singing, dancing, playful, ecstatic happiness and I couldn’t stop smiling. Mother Earth nurtured me as I felt myself becoming one with her raw sensuality, beauty, strength and love.

As I painted the earthy forms of Taurus in the colors of nature, She allowed me to see her naked glory wrapped in the seasonal sadness of her shifting cycles.

I Paint Virgo

While channeling Virgo energy I wrote a story about a young girl who lost all she valued before learning to love each day for its own sake. As a young woman she discovered her animal totem and lover, the brown bear who symbolized love and strength. As she grew older and wiser she collected herbs and healed others. Awakening Virgo energy helps us tune into the health of our bodies and minds, deciding what seeds to harvest and what to compost. Virgo knows how to harvest great ideas and turn them into something useful and nourishing.

My Virgo painting depicts the three stages of a woman’s life: maiden, mother, and crone. The colors are earthy and healing blues and greens.

Libra Goddess by Kathy Crabbe

I Paint Libra

The Libra Meditation got me dancing and twirling in my fringed shawl and long, silk skirt. I danced myself awake, becoming beauty, grace, lightness and perfection balancing beauty and strength.

My Libra painting was strong and sexual; squiggles and lines caressed my Libra Goddess and danced her around the world.

Embrace your Libra essence as you create and feel beauty, power and strength within. Feel the balance within and without.

Sagittarius Goddess by Kathy Crabbe

I Paint Sagittarius

Channeling Sag energy allowed me to trust in life and to leap before looking knowing that I am safe. When I seek truth I know Sag energy.  Sag teaches us how to uplift our spirit, teach others, and carry the truth within opening us all to other realities.  We must heal the artist, the creator, and the dreamer within. To create is to release ourselves into the flow of life. We trust that in freely expressing ourselves that we are doing it for everyone, because we realize that each one of us is a Creator.

In my Sagittarius painting I have depicted a third eye that explodes into flames. This mystical, visionary opening allows me to connect with my higher purpose, guiding the way for all humanity.

Capricorn Goddess by Kathy Crabbe

I Paint Capricorn

The Capricorn Meditation released lots of anger as I felt myself breaking free from structures I had learned from my parents. Capricorn rules structural systems such as our bone structure and our skin as well as boundaries and laws. The body challenges and teaches us how to become divine, but first we must appreciate the body we were given.

My Capricorn painting is heavy and sad as I released old, outworn forms. Capricorns lessons are never easy and my soul yearned for freedom from this depressed mode of being.

Capricorn teaches us how to organize our time so that we can release our energies in a guided, productive way. We are learning about boundaries and laws. Capricorn encourages us to focus our power so that we can release our creativity and sensitivity in connection with our life’s mission.

Aquarius Goddess by Kathy Crabbe

I Paint Aquarius

During the Aquarius Meditation I realized that all we do effects humanity. My painting shocked itself alive as the Pleiadians spoke with me through the language of a fire flame. I was being guided. DNA runs through my painting as with jabs and bursts of energy. We can tap into Aquarian energy by exploring radical ideas and questing into the future. Aquarian energy is filled with electrical insights of lightening bolt intensity designed to shake up the entire world!

Pisces Goddess by Kathy Crabbe

I Paint Pisces

During the Pisces Meditation I questioned Love. Love is everything from pain to pleasure and I needed to listen and love myself first before I could love anyone else.  But how do we know if love is true? Love is warm, whole, open and selfless. Love is shameless, guiltless joy. Later that night I had a dream where Love poured through me unlike anything I’d ever felt before.

My Pisces painting (see beginning of this chapter) flowed magically and gracefully onto the illustration board and I felt Her energy calm, serene, peaceful and knowing.

Allow Piscean energy into your life by letting love in. Share your creations because you know they are coming from a place of love. Love IS everything.
