How To Develop Your Psychic and Intuitive Abilities

This blog post was written a while ago in response to a question from a client and I’ve just updated it.

Andrea’s Question: "Do you have any recommendations about how one should go about furthering their psychic abilities? I've read tarot cards on and off, and seem to have a knack, and then of course there's my natural ability to "read" people. But not necessarily with dates & times and all that predictive stuff."

My Response: I personally like to learn experientially in a hands-on fashion, but my very earliest experiences with the intuitive realms involved private exploration of dreams and dream journaling, astrology, tarot and paganism. I began learning about these things in my early teens and have gone on to develop my natural intuitive abilities (which we all have) with the help of teachers, through group classes, workshops, lectures, books and private sessions with healers and intuitive guides.

Dreams

I started out by working with my dreams and recommend keeping a dream journal by your bed where you can record dreams when you wake up or by setting an alarm clock to wake yourself up at an odd hour to facilitate dream remembrance. Significant dreams will stay with you and resonate for years to come and you will begin to know which dreams are significant with practice. You can also work with lucid dreaming or by asking yourself a question before falling asleep and requesting that the answer come to you in a dream. Often dreams will allow you to re-connect with deceased friends or relatives and sometimes you may astro travel as well.

Update: Now that I’ve been dream journalling for so long I don’t like to request dream guidance very often because I often find that it disrupts my sleep. But sometimes on special occasions (significant moon phases/equinoxes etc) I will.

Astrology

There is much more to astrology than just your sun sign (determined by the day you were born.) Becoming involved with the study of the planets and stars will expand your awareness on a universal level connecting you with the bigger picture crossing generations and even universes. My own studies in metaphysics began with dreams, which led to astrology.

Tarot

Tarot decks are a whole world onto themselves and can involve you in an ancient study of images and symbols with mysterious origins. Working with tarot cards has allowed me to access the many realms depicted in the cards. By working with a Pre-Celtic Shamanistic deck called “The Greenwood Deck” I first encountered one of my main spirit guides while meditating upon the Ancestor card.

Update: I’ve self published 3 oracle decks (as of 2020). Oracle Decks also help to stimulate our intuition connecting us with universal archetypes. I prefer to create oracle decks because I can create my own system rather than working within an established system such as the Tarot.

Paganism
& Goddess Worship

I became involved with the study of paganism and ancient goddess religions when I was at university taking a Women’s Studies class. On a more personal level I was first introduced to this topic by a male friend of mine who liked to dress up as Pan on Halloween. I have attended several goddess groups and pagan rituals but prefer to practice my own solitary, eclectic and personal blend of reverence for Mother Earth.

Update: Currently I work within the tradition of Third Road Celtic Faerie Shamanism and was initiated into this tradition in 2017 by Francesca De Grandis.

Continue to nourish your body with fresh fruit and veggies, drink nourishing infusions to clear your body's filters of negative energy.

2. You are not asking for help! Your guides/angels/higher power cannot interfere due to the law of free-will. You need to quiet your mind, and ask for your messages from the Divine to be delivered with love and clarity, and in the highest good of all involved.

3. Your questions/prayers are being answered but in unexpected ways. Open your clair-senses and be patient while the Universe works out the details. Be aware of your sixth sense by asking yourself: what do I hear (clair audience), what do I feel (clair sentience), what do I know (clair gonizance), and what do I see beyond the physical (clair voyance).

4. The answer you seek offers challenges that you are not ready for yet. The message you seek may require confidence, maturity, courage beyond what you have mastered to accept and move forward with. You may not be ready to take action. The messages may also be delivered from different sources over time allowing you to digest the information in a way that allows you to cope. Sixth sensory living and spiritual growth go hand in hand so let go and have faith and your answers will come.

5. Your living space is muddying up your aura with clusters of clutter and unnecessary objects that hold negative energy. Clear away your space, donate items of value that hold negative energy whenever you see or hold the item(s). No matter what the monetary value, it is not worth giving up your psychic health for. Clean up and clear out your drawers, closets, cupboards and storage areas and you will experience a feeling of lightness and well being. In doing so, your clair senses will have an open channel to your sixth sensory living.

1. How did you first become interested in spirituality?

As long as I can remember I knew that my life encompassed a spirituality beyond that of the dogma of being raised a Roman Catholic.  From the age of around eight or nine, I was able to recognize my sense of clairsentience although at the time I knew little of that term.  These feelings that would show up during times of turmoil or worry would allow a sense of calmness and peace to flow through my soul and I would know that everything would be okay.  Around the age of ten I started journaling, which was an awesome tool to strengthen and develop my intuition.  As I matured I began to use meditation and astral projection to quiet and cool the fever of home sickness.

2. How did you learn to trust your intuition?

My biggest area of opportunity while working as a psychic/intuitive healer is found in the area of living to the best of my ability. I remind myself to live each day in the moment of what is happening and treat others as I expect to be treated. 

3. What advice can you give to others who are seeking to develop and strengthen their intuition?

The Archangels offer this message for growing your intuition: "Express yourself and awaken your psychic sense through the magical power of music and movement!" Also, To be closer to spirit one can connect with nature and keep “green” wherever possible.

4. What is the most rewarding part of the intuitive and spiritual work you do and the least rewarding? Examples please!

The most rewarding experiences come from seeing the joy in people whom I have helped to achieve peace and clarity. My client, Roberta had a session of Reiki followed by an angel card reading. When the session was completed Roberta had a much clearer understanding  of why she had such a troubled relationship with her mother.  Robyn wrote:  “My reading was great...Ann is a very unique and loving soul. It was a great experience.  Ann pegged me right on; she could see and feel my eternal being.”

5. What is your greatest gift or strength and how do you apply that gift to helping women?

As I see it my greatest gift is my intuitive ability.  I am passionate about the empowerment of women through education in the choices we have available.  I encourage women to be responsible for their feminine health as well as their spiritual and emotional balance.  I ask every woman to take at least one day a week and place themselves on the top rung of their ladder.  Use this time to honor your soul and to move towards illumination of your life’s purpose.

4.“Fairy in the Raw” (see image to the left) ~ in my role as Psychic/Intuitive Healer, because what you see is what you get. Fairy in the Raw also resonates the strongest with me as I am an in-the-closet-nudist with an ongoing passive/aggressive relationship with my wardrobe!

7. Is there a message coming through from your guide(s) right now that you feel we should know about?

The Archangels have asked me to share the following message: "It is safe for you to be powerful and take charge of your life in positive ways!"

8. If you could be any flower, what would it be?

A dandelion…lol even though most would classify this as a weed!  Dandelion has many healing properties.  In the end of my dandelion life I would love to turn fluffy and white and have a child pick me to make a wish.
