Kathy Crabbe author boxABOUT KATHY

Kathy Crabbe is a Creative Soul Guide, artist, author and educator. Originally from Canada, Kathy currently lives and works in the wine country of Temecula. Kathy created the Awaken Your Creative Soul class after spending 7 years drawing a Creative Soul Deck using her non dominant left hand. This awakened Kathy’s intuitive, creative soul in new ways and inspired her to help others follow their dreams. Since then Kathy has given over 1000 intuitive readings using her Creative Soul ‘lefty’ deck as well as teaching at the Wise Woman University. Her art has appeared in galleries, museums, magazines and on HGTV. Kathy formed a writer’s group in Temecula to share her ‘lefty’ art and poetry which she also published in a zine featuring local writers. Kathy and a life sized Lefty were invited to speak at an International Women’s Day event in Los Angeles that the LA Times dubbed “self esteem boosting” which was almost as dreamy as hearing her favorite song performed by Michelle Shocked in the background as she spoke.

Discipline, Balance & Strength: Capricorn Collages

I'm finally back in the collage-swing-of-things along with a VERY lively group of Divine Feminine Moon Musing students for the Capricorn 2011 Term of my 4 week eClass...a very impressive bunch! I encourage all my students to create at least one collage during the class, but if they're feeling extra motivated I also encourage them to create 3 separate collages for each phase of the moon. I'd slacked off a bit with my moon collage creations, but set the intention of committing to the collage process starting in January of 2011  (that Cappie New Moon does indeed help with discipline, don'tcha think?)

Here's my own collage created for the New Moon in Capricorn, Full Moon in Cancer and the Waning Moon in Scorpio.

The background is taken from one of my newest paintings which is part of my Journey Into Intimacy Series.

I incorporated three of my Lefty Oracle Cards which I had chosen for each of the moon phases (Skell, Sharmin' and Guess).

The Yin Yang symbol in the upper right and the Black Mermaid (from my Laguna Beach Mermaid Series) in the lower right represent the balancing act I'm doing between life/art/work which is also represented by the half goat, half fish symbolizing the zodiac sign of Capricorn.

The circle of copper ribbon that I've sewed onto the collage represents the dedication and focus that is required to develop my Creative Soul Circle.

For my new moon collage I chose pictures that showed how I wanted to be empowered by the moon, along with quotes and song lyrics that I felt expressed the inspiration I was looking to find in the next month.

In my full moon collage I expressed the seeds of intention I had planted through words and pictures. I included a picture of the cycle of the moon to show how I had changed throughout the month. I also added pictures of my power animals, and the names of the two goddesses that have guided me this month along with their strengths that I wish to find in myself.

Full Moon Divine Feminine Snake Power

In honour of this past Full Moon in Scorpio and as part of my Awaken Your Divine Feminine Soul eCourse I've chosen the incredibly powerful Minoan Snake Goddess from 1600 BCE, Crete to grace my collage with her powerful sexuality.

The Cretans saw the supreme divine power in terms of the feminine principle, and incarnate in a woman whom they portrayed exactly like one of themselves ... comfortable with her beauty, her body and her power ... Fertility and abundance were the purpose and the desire, sex was the instrument, and for this reason its symbols were everywhere. ~ Riane Eisler, The Chalice and the Blade: Our History, Our Future.

More Images Within My Collage:

1. The seal - which represents protection, something that we as women need to be especially aware of when working within the realms of the deep subconscious.

2. Aquarius the Water Bearer - this was the first image I painted during my first silk painting class back in the early 1990's at Wild Fiber Studio in Santa Monica, California. My Moon is in the sign of Aquarius in the 11th house (the Aquarian house) and during this current New/Full Moon cycle I am really getting in touch with the mental/thinking side of my emotional nature. The placement of the Moon in our natal chart is where we feel comfortable in our skin, and for me, that involves some detachment and the ability to connect with all my Moon friends on a universal level which is perfectly suited to the internet. In fact, computer technology is ruled by the sign of Aquarius!

3. Susanne Bier, Director of the Danish movie After the Wedding - A wonderful movie! I especially enjoyed the interview with her after wards. I felt as though I was seeing a strong woman not afraid to express her thoughts and feelings in a very forthright and compassionate way and I honour that and imagine her to be one of my soul reading clients as well! I especially liked this comment referring to something she learned in film school, "Kill the darlings and focus on the ball" (meaning, 'let go of the not-so-hot creations to make the really good ones stronger, which is so difficult for artists to do!) Within her films she is able to bring her characters into emotional and intimate eyesight with the audience and often with a sense of humor. It's humor that I feel is missing from so many spiritual practices, how about in yours?

4. I've included the astrological symbols for the sign of Taurus and Venus (which is the ruling planet of Taurus) - the ankh (or Venus glyph) literally represents a circle of spirit balancing on the cross of the earth's 4 elements as a rainbow of peace pours out of the diamond center of the heart. Remember that Venus is also known as Aphrodite and as Ishtar, the wishing star. The symbol or glyph for Taurus (with a crescent moon balanced on her head) reminds us that "Thou shalt live in blessedness. Thous shalt live glorious under my protection."

5. The background of the collage comes from a painting I'm working on and you can follow along with it's many stages of development (it's not done yet!) here on my blog: Art Mystic Post 1 and Post 2

Full Moon Fruition Collage

To get things rolling for my brand new course - Awaken Your Divine Feminine Soul- which just debuted on this New Moon, March 15, 2010 I'm going to be sharing some ideas that are a part of this course such as the Full Moon Collage (pictured here) and the New Moon Collage I created this self study course especially for women to help awaken, inspire and engage your passionate, intuitive, creative selves through the creation of a Moon Musing Journal, Moon Collages and Moon Musing Exercises in honour of the new, full and waning moons.

I believe that the moon can help guide and challenge us to know and resonate with our instinctual, emotional selves in a balanced, harmonious and soulful way.

The course will start on the new moon of each month and includes four lessons plus a supplemental Moon Musing email specifically geared to the zodiac sign that the moon falls in for that particular month. My course is offered through the Wise Woman University which has lots of other interesting and goddess-oriented self-study programs as well, so stop on over and check things out!

If you have any questions about the course, please let me know and I'll be happy to respond here or via email.

Sheela-na-gig - Dark Goddess

“We can make art letting the voice of the goddess – the oracle – speak through us in healing words and images.” ~ Vicki Noble

Sheela-Na-Gig is a goddess I have wanted to work with for a long time. She represents much that we, as women, have had to subdue just to fit in. She is fierce and uncompromising.

“She is remembered in Ireland as the Old Woman Creatress who gave birth to all races of men. Her function in the church was like that of the Gorgon on Athena’s shield: to protect and ward off evil. Labeled obscene in later more prudish times, the carvings were destroyed or defaced, sometimes buried in yards of the churches they once sanctified.” ~ Elinor W. Gadon - The Once & Future Goddess

My Waning Moon collage was created on the computer. The background consists of an abstract painting from my recent series “Journey Into Intimacy” and the quotation was something I had used beneath my photo in my graduation yearbook from Graphic Design College, back in 1992.

This Collage is an example of the kind of creative activity we will be doing in my new eCourse Awaken the Divine Feminine which begins at the New Moon on March 15th at the Wise Woman University. The course is 4 weeks long and costs $49.95 - I created this self study course especially for women to help awaken, inspire and engage our passionate, intuitive, creative selves through the creation of a Moon Musing Journal, a Moon Collage and Moon Musing Exercises in honour of the new, full and waning moons.
