This week, I've been chatting with Kathy Crabbe about making oracle cards, and I noticed she had a wonderful blog post on the Aries new moon. So, I decided to make a simple spread based on her post: How To Get Inspired and Fight To Win This Aries New Moon.

Card 1: What do you want more than anything? Card 2: How to get it (by tapping into your Aries Fire). Card 3: Affirmation to support your goal.

Here's my reading:

Kristen's Aries New Moon Oracle Spread

Kristen's Aries New Moon Oracle Spread

Card 1: Knight of Wands. This card represents a departure which I'll be making very soon to live in a different part of the country. It also signifies the freedom and adventure I'm hoping this move will help me regain. I'm eager to start over and live life to the fullest.

Card 2: Have Fun. I get this card a lot as an admonishment because I'm always so busy working, creating, and trying to stay afloat. But this card shows that adding more fun to my days will help me live life to the fullest.

Card 3: I am joyous. Love this card! And it ties in nicely with the positive energy of the other two cards.

The decks used in this reading were the Tarot Everywhere deck, Oracle Everywhere deck and I AM Cards. They are all available for sale through my Printerstudio shopspace HERE

Express Your Divine Feminine Creative Fire: An Interview with Author, Teri Degler

The Divine Feminine Fire by Teri Degler Today's Creative Soul Spotlight is on Teri Degler, author/co-author of ten non-fiction books, including The Fiery Muse: Creativity and the Spiritual Quest and the topic of our interview today – The Divine Feminine Fire; Creativity and Your Yearning to Express Your Self. I've had the pleasure of getting acquainted with Teri through numerous emails discussing this interview and it's truly been a delight, but I really just LOVED her book and am adding it to my Resource List for the Divine Feminine eClass I teach. It's personal, it's intuitive, it's helpful and it's even got Creativity Exercises included at the end of each chapter, and in fact I fell so in love with Teri's book and made so many notes in it and copied so many quotations from it, that I just couldn't bear to part with the review copy I was sent! (I'm sure you'll understand why after reading this interview.)

What fears did you have to break through to write this book?

The biggest fear was that – in spite of having had nine other books published -- I couldn’t do it. I simply would not be able to pull it off. And then – as I tell the story in the book – I completely collapsed in fear when the arrangement I had with my former publisher fell apart. I realize now that part of the reason I had so much trouble with this was that, in my mind, having I had a major publisher for the book validated it and validated me in some way. I didn’t have the inner faith in my self or in the book that I needed.

Do you have any advice for women struggling with fear?

In The Divine Feminine Fire I talk about the battle between divine love and fear and the fact that love is always capable of conquering fear. This love is the active power of the divine. St. Hildegard von Bingen called this fiery power Caritas or Sophia. The ancient yogis called it Shakti – the cosmic divine feminine. But the important thing for those of us who struggle with fear is that this inner power is accessible! It is embodied in each one of us. We simply have to tune into it – through prayer, meditation, creativity exercises like the ones that are in the book – and allow it to flow through us. Like any spiritual practice this requires practice!

(Unfortunately, trying to summarize this makes it all sound a bit glib! Fear is part of the “unenlightened” human condition; it is something we face continually and meet on different levels as we grow and progress. This is certainly true for me at any rate!)

How does it feel when you’re ‘in the flow’ of creation?

Although I imagine this experience is different for everyone, it is no coincidence that we use the word “flow” when we refer to these types of experiences! There really is a sense of something – call it a force, an energy, whatever you will – flowing through you. For me, when I am really writing at the deepest level, the world around me fades away and nothing exists but images conjured up by what I’m writing. It feels like I am floating in time and space. It is also very blissful. For me this is connecting to the divine feminine – the creatrix of the universe and the creative force within each one of us. But there is also a lot of work with writing – for me that’s when my inner divine masculine comes into play – a constructive critical side that edits, rewrites, and rearranges so the work is as clear as it can possibly be.

(I want to make it clear at some point that I believe the Divine – God, the Absolute, the Great Spirit, whatever you want to call it – is beyond gender. It is neither masculine nor feminine. However, I also believe the Divine exists in terms of an inner divine masculine and divine feminine and that the Divine expresses itself in this kind of polarity throughout the universe. Indeed we experience life itself in terms of polarity – male/female; light/dark; yin/yang; positive/negative electrical charges, and on and on…)

When you were younger what did you want to be when you grew up?

Nobody has ever asked me that before! I wanted to be a singer because my older half-sister had a wonderful voice and I idolized her. But after being demoralized by music teachers who told me I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket I gave up. Fortunately, I also love to draw and was quite good at it so I turned my sights to becoming an artist. A year of being an art major in university convinced me this wasn’t the right path for me. Now I realize that it was the yearning to express myself that was the important thing. According to interpretations of the age-old yogic texts, this deep-seated longing can be thought of as the voice of Shakti – the cosmic divine feminine – propelling us along the path of spiritual transformation…

How has writing The Divine Feminine Fire transformed your life?

Exactly in the way I describe in the answer above. The ancient yogis described Shakti as what today we could call an evolutionary force – we can also think of it as a sort of spiritual transformative “energy”. And there is only one spiritual transformative energy; it doesn’t matter whether we call it kundalini-shakti, jeng chi, dumo fire, or Holy Spirit – it is the fire of the spirit within that transforms us and brings us closer to the Divine. Writing a book about ancient women mystics and seemingly ordinary, everyday women today who are experiencing this transformative power in their lives gave me a chance to really focus on that very same force and to really feel and experience it in my own life.

Teri Degler

How can we, as women best contribute to this crucial time in human history and can you share some real life examples from your own life?

We simply need to express this force in our lives – whether it is in our creative expression, the creative thinking we bring to solving either our own problems or the world’s, or the hands-on work we do to make the world a better place. Mahadevi – a medieval yogini – described it as being filled with the “precious juice of grace”. Once filled with this grace she then poured it back into the world in the form of her writing and in the efforts she made to ease the suffering she saw around her.

In the book I talk about four steps involved in expressing this force. First, be able to recognize this power. This is why I describe the divine feminine from the Hindu, Christian, and Jewish traditions in the book – so we can know her and know how she works in our lives. Second, we need to practice sitting with/simply being with this power – we need to be comfortable with holding this power in our bodies. Third, we need to listen to what she is telling us – really hear the guidance that is being given to us. Then we can come to the last step, which is allowing this precious juice of grace to flow upwards, outwards, and onto the world which needs it so badly.

There are examples in the book of women who did this. Anya, for instance, came up with an extremely creative and exciting way to start a big environmental movement in her home town. And right now one of the other women whose earlier story I told in the book is in India working passionately with the Global Peace Initiative of Women to create an international, interfaith centre aimed at helping to bring the values and wisdom of the feminine into contemporary spirituality and society.

What is the most important message you would like to convey through your book?

This is directly linked to your question above. This transformative spiritual force – that is embodied within us! – is transforming us and we can use that power to transform the world. And I absolutely believe it is our responsibility as human beings – and especially as empowered women! – to do just that.

Who or what do you find yourself returning to over and over again to inspire your Divine Feminine creativity?

Personally I really love to keep reading the age-old yogic and Tantric texts that describe the transformative power of the divine feminine. But I get much of my day to day inspiration from the women I’ve met and continue to meet who are doing incredibly inspiring work in the world. I tell one these women’s stories in each issue of my newsletter: http://www.teridegler.com/newsletter.html. I’m also posting their pictures, a bit about why they are inspiring, and their websites on my new Face Book community page, and I’m in the process of starting an “Inspiring Women Inspiring Women” page on my website. So everyone can check them out and get inspired!

What is the most difficult part of following your creative passions?

Fear. It seems I have to keep coming back to this and facing new levels of self-doubt every time I face a new challenge.

What advice can you offer to women who are seeking to reignite their Divine Feminine fire?

The four steps above. Learn to recognize the divine feminine. Become ever more comfortable holding this great power in your body. Listen to what it is telling you. Express it. (And, remember, you can’t express it if you don’t create a certain amount of time and space in your life for doing so!)

When you look back on all the research, writing and interviewing you did for The Divine Feminine Fire, what one thing stands out the most, as if it’s been burned into your memory for all time?

That this divine feminine force is real – that the active power of divine love is real – that the “light within” is real – and that they are all the same thing!

What is your next project going to be about, can you give us a hint?

I am thinking about writing a book about the spiritual journey I’ve been on – it has had painful, heartbreaking moments and many really whacky, funny moments too… I would be very nervous if this were going to be a book about “me” – but I think it could be me as a writer being a sort of “lens” on the spiritual journey from the late 1960s on – and a way of sharing the absolutely amazing people I’ve met, things I’ve seen, and experiences I’ve been blessed – and, admittedly, sometimes tortured! – to have had. But there are about ten other books I’d like to write too!!

Interview with Angel Healer & Skin Therapist, Ann Melanson

Ann Melanson An Interview with Ann Melanson Angel Healer & Skin Therapist Website: New Moon Skin Therapy Burlington, Ontario, Canada

1. How did you first become interested in spirituality?

As long as I can remember I knew that my life encompassed a spirituality beyond that of the dogma of being raised a Roman Catholic.  From the age of around eight or nine, I was able to recognize my sense of clairsentience although at the time I knew little of that term.  These feelings that would show up during times of turmoil or worry would allow a sense of calmness and peace to flow through my soul and I would know that everything would be okay.  Around the age of ten I started journaling, which was an awesome tool to strengthen and develop my intuition.  As I matured I began to use meditation and astral projection to quiet and cool the fever of home sickness.

2. How did you learn to trust your intuition?

My biggest area of opportunity while working as a psychic/intuitive healer is found in the area of living to the best of my ability. I remind myself to live each day in the moment of what is happening and treat others as I expect to be treated.

3. What advice can you give to others who are seeking to develop and strengthen their intuition?

The Archangels offer this message for growing your intuition: "Express yourself and awaken your psychic sense through the magical power of music and movement!" Also, To be closer to spirit one can connect with nature and keep “green” wherever possible.

4. What is the most rewarding part of the intuitive and spiritual work you do and the least rewarding? Examples please!

The most rewarding experiences come from seeing the joy in people whom I have helped to achieve peace and clarity. My client, Roberta had a session of Reiki followed by an angel card reading. When the session was completed Roberta had a much clearer understanding  of why she had such a troubled relationship with her mother.  Robyn wrote:  “My reading was great...Ann is a very unique and loving soul. It was a great experience.  Ann pegged me right on; she could see and feel my eternal being.”

5. What is your greatest gift or strength and how do you apply that gift to helping women?

As I see it my greatest gift is my intuitive ability.  I am passionate about the empowerment of women through education in the choices we have available.  I encourage women to be responsible for their feminine health as well as their spiritual and emotional balance.  I ask every woman to take at least one day a week and place themselves on the top rung of their ladder.  Use this time to honor your soul and to move towards illumination of your life’s purpose.

6. Which of my Creative Soul Guide® Cards resonates with you the most and why?

The Creative Soul Guides reach out to me and make me smile and they resonate with me on different levels. There are four that if put on a marquee would be the lead roles in the production of my life.

1. “I Refuse To Take Sides” ~ in my role as a mom of three.

2. “Salti” ~ in my role as life partner. I have been called a salty sea woman as my words can be peppery but at the end of the day all are fed, warm and content!

3. “Millie Peppery Performer and Star of Her Own Planet” ~ in my role as a sister - my four siblings would perhaps agree!

4.“Fairy in the Raw” (see image to the left) ~ in my role as Psychic/Intuitive Healer, because what you see is what you get. Fairy in the Raw also resonates the strongest with me as I am an in-the-closet-nudist with an ongoing passive/aggressive relationship with my wardrobe!

7. Is there a message coming through from your guide(s) right now that you feel we should know about?

The Archangels have asked me to share the following message: "It is safe for you to be powerful and take charge of your life in positive ways!"

8. If you could be any flower, what would it be?

A dandelion…lol even though most would classify this as a weed!  Dandelion has many healing properties.  In the end of my dandelion life I would love to turn fluffy and white and have a child pick me to make a wish.

Aries Full Moon: Uncovering Your Vibrant Self

I am very happy to introduce fellow Virgo astrologer and author Emily Trinkaus along with the debut of her brand new column written especially for the Full Moon and for this blog - yahoo! I know you'll enjoy it and I look forward to sharing more of Emily's Full Moon Wisdom in the coming months. Carolya. Watercolor on paper, 8 x 10 inches © 2010 by Kathy Crabbe

Aries Full Moon: Uncovering Your Vibrant Self by Emily Trinkaus

Friday's Full Moon is a rare, Blue Moon event -- a second consecutive Full Moon in fiery, passionate Aries. Think back to what was happening around September 23rd, at the first Aries Full Moon. This year we're gifted with two opportunities to get the lessons of the Aries/Libra polarity -- the balance of masculine and feminine, independence and relationship, feisty initiation and measured reflection.

Each Full Moon is a time of illumination, revelation, culmination and fruition. The Full Moon in Aries asks: What do you really want? What excites and inspires you? Are you in touch with your instincts, drive and vital life force? Have you sacrificed your authenticity, your passion, your true desires to please your partner, family, society? Are you giving more than you're receiving?

This Full Moon is at the very last degree of Aries, highlighting endings and completions related to Aries themes: an aspect of your identity you've outgrown, a way of taking action or relating that's not serving you, a past pursuit or passion that no longer excites you.

The two-week period following the Full Moon, while the Moon is waning, is an ideal time for letting go of the old and clearing space for the new. Clean out the dusty corners of your home and psyche, get rid of possessions that are holding stagnant energy, write or sing or paint or dance your feelings and uncover a more vibrant version of your self.

On Saturday, the Sun will shift into Scorpio, joining Mercury, Venus and Mars in the sign of magic, transformation and regeneration. While access to invisible power is strong, take advantage of this Full Moon opportunity to perform a simple ritual. Aries likes it fast and fiery: light a candle, write down what you're ready to release, burn the paper, and do a little dance -- or just jump around and shake off the old. The Full Moon will be exact on Friday at 6:36pm Pacific Time, but the energy is powerful all Friday and Saturday.

Conversations with the Goddess by Guest Author, Dorothy Atalla

Conversations with the Goddess by Dorothy AtallaI recently reviewed Dorothy Atalla's new book, Conversations with the Goddess - Encounter at Petra, Place of Power and my favorite part was her exciting discovery that through deep meditation she was able to access images, information and eventually a feminine Presence who identified herself as the Goddess along with ancient people associated with the sacred city of Petra. Dorothy's background is in academia so during these meditations her mental mind was saying, "You don't have solid research to back up these insights" and so she remedies this concern through solid research, reading and questioning of the Presence based upon a chapter by chapter discussion of two books: The Great Mother by Erich Neumann and Up From Eden by Ken Wilber.

"When men and women stand on the High Place in the age to come, the only sacrifice will be themselves, that is to say, the boundaries of the small self will dissolve to merge with the All."

Spotlight on Author, Dorothy 'Chickee' Atalla

In the ancient world the Divine Feminine, or Goddess, was often portrayed in three aspects: maiden, mother, and old woman.

We live in a very different world today, but it is worth looking at these three aspects because they are still important stages in a woman’s life -- even though they don't encompass all that a modern woman is. Moving from one stage to another marks a significant and irreversible natural shift in our bodies and our female being.

Now you might be thinking, This all sounds like the old maxim, “Biology is destiny,” and who wants to be defined by that anymore? Well, yes, it does sound that way – unless you also consider these three stages as spiritual shifts in our lives.

What might the spiritual nature of each phase of the Goddess have been like?

We can imagine something of this from looking at Minoan civilization, dating from about 3,000 to 1400 B.C. The Minoans lived on the island of Crete in the Mediterranean sea.

Abundant archaeological evidence exists for this society’s reverence of a Goddess. Murals found at Knossos, a town in Crete, show plant life in exuberant growth around the central image of a female deity. Animals and humans are depicted as part of this abundance. These paintings reveal reverence for the generative powers of Earth.

What do you think a society with reverence of the Divine Feminine might have looked like?

Women's rising awareness will shatter the present social molds as women turn within to find the energies uniquely theirs, in coming into touch with them, they will become empowered. This will set up an irresistible force which will alter society as it exists now...Women will be central in creating large scale communal values; they have been long engaged in creation and maintenance of relationship and communal living on a small scale within families.

Women's Spirituality Author: Dorothy chickee AtallaMore About Dorothy

On a  January day in the depths of mid-western winter Dorothy (Chickee to her friends) Atalla expected more of the same: snow , ice and gray skies.   But when she lay down on her living room carpet to relax with music, she had an experience which changed her life.  Inexplicably, a vision of a radiant and beneficent female presence appeared to her.  This astonishing event was only the beginning of a journey she could never have imagined.  Nor did she then realize that her vision had any connection with a trip she had made to Petra, a site in the country of Jordan.  That vision foreshadowed  the dialogue with deity  which is the essence of her new book, Conversations with the Goddess: Encounter at Petra, Place of Power.

Conversations with the Goddess swiftly evolves  from personal story into a universal story in which a feminine Presence speaks about  the role of the sacred Feminine in the future.  She also speaks of the past, revealing a panoramic view of a time in which the Goddess was revered not only at Petra but also throughout the ancient world.

Because this event ignited Chickee’s interest  in the Divine Feminine for the rest of her life, she has also produced other writings about it.  The following blog post series is one of these.
